Encounters with foxes, tame and wild
This ongoing web project chronicles in photographs, video and words the red foxes I've shared time with during the past 35 years. Working as a professional wildlife film-maker I've been incredibly fortunate to travel the world filming amazing animals - from Komodo Dragons in Indonesia and King Cobras in India to tiny Bumblebee bats in Burma. Foxes have always held a special place in my heart though. Back in the mid 1980's, when I was starting to get work on major BBC nature series, a producer asked me to take on a tame vixen and to film her for the 10 x 1hour The Living Isles - A Natural History Of Britain & Ireland . Over the next 5 years I took on a further 3 foxes and the stories of Heidi, Firkin, Kate and Lisa are told in these pages.
During the past 7 years my encounters with foxes have been with the wild urban variety. During 2018 a young vixen appeared in our garden and over the past few months she and I have developed a bond that has resulted in some remarkable video clips and images. Take a look at The Urban Foxes page on this site.
